Head of Department - Dr. Olusegun S. Ajala

Dr. Olusegun Samson Ajala is the Ag. Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lagos. He is an Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry, with research interests in combining Natural Products and Computational Drug Discovery to develop innovative and efficient therapeutic solutions.

He has been a visiting scholar at leading international institutions, including the University of Queensland, Australia, and Inner Mongolia University, China.

Dr. Ajala holds a B. Pharm. from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and both M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the University of Lagos. He has received several awards for excellence in research and thesis work and has been supported by prestigious international grants.

He is happily married with children and enjoys sports and music.

To establish the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lagos, as a globally recognized and competitive hub for research, while providing high-quality, student-centered training for both undergraduate Pharmacy students and postgraduate (M.Sc./Ph.D.) Pharmaceutical Chemistry students.

Our Mission

To pursue innovative and effective approaches in teaching and research that attract groundbreaking grants, enhance the Department’s global visibility, and equip graduates—B. Pharm., Pharm. D., and M.Sc./Ph.D. holders—with the knowledge and skills for excellence in hospital and community pharmacy practice, as well as in drug discovery, analysis, synthesis, and finished pharmaceutical product manufacturing.
