Personal Statement

Dr. Nkechi Veronica Enwuru is a distinguished lecturer and accomplished researcher with a focus on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and biotherapeutic formulation. Her academic research encompasses the surveillance of emerging and re-emerging microbial pathogens, the study of antimicrobial resistance, and the exploration of drug discovery through microbial-based therapies, particularly the applications of bacteriophages and probiotics in combating bacterial infections in both humans and animals.

She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Nnamdi Azikiwe University and Medical Laboratory Science training at Lagos University Teaching Hospital. Subsequently, she obtained her Master’s and PhD degrees from the University of Lagos, Nigeria. Currently, she serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Microbiology and Biotechnology at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lagos, Nigeria. Dr. Enwuru leads a dedicated team of researchers who employ both conventional and molecular methods to isolate and characterize bacteriophages and probiotics, subsequently formulating them into innovative biotherapeutics.
